Antique Carved Wooden Statue of Saint Michael standing over a defeated Satan

A rare and visually commanding antique carved wooden figure depicting Saint Michael the Archangel triumphing over a beast beneath his feet representing lucifer . Shown in armour, with a raised sword and a chain held in his lowered hand, the statue has a powerful sculptural presence and an immediately striking silhouette.

Finely rendered details include the patterned breastplate, layered tunic, feathered wings and the creature’s expressive features. The wood has developed a rich, warm brown patina, while surface wear, insect holes, age cracks and natural irregularities enhance its distinctive antique character and one-of-a-kind appeal.

An exceptional decorative statement piece for collectors, and a compelling addition to a hallway, library or period interior.

16th/17th century, European.
