A charming pair of late 19th-century Italian Vicenza stone statues depicting putti personifying Sculpture and Painting

The sculptor holds a mallet and chisel above a classical bust, while his companion carries an artist’s palette and brushes.

Both figures feature curling hair, expressive faces and loosely draped cloth around their waists, seated upon individually carved supports with rectangular bases. The pale stone has developed an attractive weathered surface, with natural discolouration and traces of lichen enhancing their antique character.

A decorative pair suited to a garden, courtyard or orangery, celebrating the fine arts in the classical Italian tradition.
