A large and imposing antique English Victorian period, carved oak fireplace with an integrated mirrored overmantel

The architectural surround features turned columns, richly carved brackets and a panelled frieze decorated with scrolling foliage.

Above the broad mantel shelf, a rectangular bevelled mirror is flanked by tall bracketed niches, with carved shell motifs and ornamental scrollwork. A projecting cornice with dentil moulding crowns a continuous band of classical foliate carving.

The stripped oak finish and mellow colour, visible grain and timeworn surface lend the piece considerable character. Its grand proportions and elaborate detailing make it a striking centrepiece for a period drawing room or library.
