Pair of mirrors – AF206
A fine and elegant pair of French painted and parcel-gilt trumeau mirrors, dating to the late 18th century and Louis XVI period
Each rectangular mirror is surmounted by a decorative frieze finely embellished with carved floral garlands and swags, centred by a ribbon-tied floral motif. The architectural frames are decorated with delicate Neoclassical foliate ornament, with gilt beaded mouldings surrounding the large rectangular mirror plates.
The restrained pale green painted surfaces are highlighted with aged gilding, retaining an attractive patina consistent with their late-18th-century character. The symmetrical garlands, delicate foliage and disciplined architectural form are characteristic of the Louis XVI Neoclassical aesthetic.
Particularly desirable as a true pair, these substantial trumeau mirrors would make an impressive architectural statement in a period or contemporary interior.
