An antique mid 18th century limestone fireplace from the city off Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy
The solid jambs, slightly canted, with recessed panels and carved stylized shell detail. The frieze with scalloped shell in the centre and cornice shelf on top.
Carved from Monte Pisano limestone.

Monte Pisano limestone—often geologically classified as Monte Pisano Marble (or calcare ceroide)—is a metamorphic carbonate rock mined in the San Giuliano Terme and Santa Maria del Giudice areas of Tuscany, Italy. Historically significant, this waxy, light-grey limestone is celebrated for its role in the Pisan Romanesque architectural style.
