Oak Cupboard – AF191

An antique Flemish oak and stained glass Renaissance style two body buffet or cupboard

A narrow cabinet comprising of two sections, with its original stained/leaded glass panel in the top section. The oak is profusely carved with lion heads and brass ring details, renaissance style terms, mouldings and a Flemish scene in bottom cupboard door panel. The glazed door opens to reveal 2 shelves. 

Standing on a shaped plinth.

Lorenzo De Medici

An antique bronze figure of Lorenzo De Medici, after Michelangelo, inscribed ‘Michel-Ange’ 

This well made and patinated antique bronze, raised on a green marble plinth depicts ‘Lorenzo de Medici’, a 15th century Italian Statesman and the powerful ruler of the Florentine Republic. He is depicted deep in thought, and is deserving of its nickname “Pensieroso” or “The thoughtful one”. The original by Michelangelo is on the tomb of Lorenzo de Medici in the Chapel of San Lorenzo in Florence. Italian.

Hercules

A large and impressive hand-carved Italian Vicenza stone statue on its original raised plinth

Depicting ‘Hercules defeats the Hydra’.

From a country house in Manchester where it stood for over 50 years, its aged very well, with a lovely patina, and never cleaned.

The original was made in 1893 and stands outside the Hofburg, Vienna.

 

 

Large wood – W182

A large and highly carved antique English oak fire surround made in the Renaissance revival style 

Large in scale and beautifully carved from oak in the Elizabethan Renaissance Revival style. The fireplace features, female terms, two well carved friezes of floral arabesques, masks and mythical creatures. The top cornice shelf with egg and dart, and dentil mouldings.

The fireplace is in great condition and the oak is a lovely honey colour.

Dumb waiter – AF190

An antique mahogany George III period three tier dumb waiter

With three graduated and revolving tiers with moulded tray edge supported by reeded baluster turned columns supported on a tripod base. The cabriole legs with ball and claw feet.

Great colour and lovely original condition.

Large carved marble – 19603

A large and incredibly well carved antique Italian Carrara marble fireplace in the Renaissance style

Made in Venice during the middle of the 19th century in the Renaissance revival style.

The coloured Portoro marble pilasters are under intricately carved capitals and corbels, the frieze is profusely carved with vines, leaf’s, grapes, foliage, centred by swan, a symbol of purity, elegance, and perfection. 

A large one piece break-fronted cornice shelf, carved with leaf work and bead and reel motifs, rests on top.

The Italian Renaissance Revival style in Venice, and in other parts of Italy, was a significant architectural movement that drew inspiration from the 14th and 15th-century Italian Renaissance, particularly the palazzos found in cities like Florence and Venice. This revival style was particularly influential in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with buildings built in this style often incorporating elements of Renaissance architecture while also adapting to the needs of the time.

 

Large carved oak – W180

A large antique profusely carved oak fireplace surround in the Jacobean style

Made during the Victorian period in England, incorporating 17th century and 18th century carved elements.

The carved console jambs with male caryatid supports, the acorn and fluted frieze centred by a well carved tablet depicting two birds feasting on berries. 

A substantial and highly carved dentil cornice self rests on top.

A stunning pair of carved black marble and coloured Medicea Siena marble topped console tables

The uprights carved from solid blocks of pure black marble in the form of Lamassu. The Italian Medicea Siena marble tops with moulded edges rests on top.

A lamassu statue is a mythological creature in ancient Mesopotamian art, specifically from Assyria, that acted as a guardian spirit, often depicted as a winged bull with a human head. These statues were commonly placed at the entrances of palaces and temples to ward off evil and chaos, and they symbolized the power and divine authority of the rulers.

 

Marble fireplace – 19598

A stunning antique Belloc Griotte marble fireplace surround, made in the neo-classical style

With fluted and carved ionic pilasters under square floral paterea end-blocks.

The centre tablet depicting a swag of laurel leaves with recessed fluted frieze panels to either side.  

A substantial break-fronted cornice shelf rests on top.

Belloc Griotte marble from Villefranches-de-Conflent, Eastern Pyreneneese, France. Quarry now closed.

Very homogenous crystalline marble of a beautiful cheery red ‘Griotte’ with a cloudy structure, shot through with threads of white calcite and other colours.

A fine pair of antique Hepplewhite, simulated satinwood and floral painted, shield back chairs

The chairs with shaped crest rails over tripartite open splat backs on square tapered legs.

The delicate paintwork depicting neo-classical floral motifs.

Black marble – 19596

An antique Early Victorian period Gothic revival, black marble and portoro marble fireplace

The half octagonal Nero Portoro marble columns are sat on pure black marble pilasters and plinths.

The black marble arched bullnosed interior, features carved floral spandrels and a Portoro frieze on top.

The black marble shelf is chamfered and with cut corners, typical of the English Gothic revival style.

An antique pair of mahogany George III period corner chairs

The moulded back rail and arm supports over turned pillars and pierced splats. The drop in seat raised on square chamfered legs united by stretchers and corbel brackets.

A finely carved George II style mahogany side/console table with Italian breccia marble top

The laurel leaf carved apron with woven basket of summer flowers and fruit at centre. The carved cabriole legs ending in hairy paw feet.

The carved is carved on all four side.

Black marble – 19593

An antique Victorian period, black and Portoro marble fireplace surround with original tiled insert

The deep moulded edge shelf rests on boldly carved scrolled corbels with shallop shell detail. These are mounted on wide jambs with inset raised and fielded Portoro marble panels. The spandrels of the arches and centre keystone are also inset with Portoro marble.

Circa 1870

 

Price includes original Victorian cast-iron and brass tiled insert.
