An antique Regency period pure white Statuary marble fireplace 

Featuring extremely fine and well carved tablets, the end-blocks depicting woven baskets filled with summer flowers. The centre tablet depicts ‘Ceres’ in a reclining position with sheaf of wheat and sickle in hand. 

Circa 1820

Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility, and motherly love. She is equivalent to the Greek goddess Demeter and was highly revered by the ancient Romans as the provider of food and sustenance.
