An outstanding and beautifully carved antique white statuary marble fireplace 

The deep rectangular moulded shelf, rests on a frieze exquisitely carved with two pairs of cornucopias, centred by a classical scene depicting Cupid and Psyche. Each jamb has a female figure, one with a dove and the other an olive branch, both representing peace, these are under end-blocks carved with very fine baskets of flowers.

This superbly carved, pure white statuary marble fireplace was produced in Rome, Italy, in the English Regency style for the British market. Roman sculpture, including fireplaces, were frequently purchased or made to order on the Grand Tour and brought to the British isles.
