Marble Fireplace – 19324

Antique Neo-Georgian style Kilkenny marble fireplace surround

Designed by Frank Atkinson in 1908 for his residence ‘Redcot House’. This neo-Georgian style fireplace made from polished Kilkenny limestone featuring simple lines, moldings and contours would have been inspired by early 18th century architecture.

Atkinson was known for adapting traditional architectural styles to the requirements of his era; this is evident in this sophisticated piece.

Circa 1908

Provenance: Redcot House, Liverpool

Redcot House was described by ‘Country Life’ magazine in the early 1920’s as a ‘Lesser Country House’ and featured in Pevsner’s Architectural Guides of Great Britain.

It was built and owned in 1908 by the renowned Liverpool architect, Frank Atkinson, who only a year earlier in 1907 was the architect who helped in the design of Selfridges in London. Atkinson also designed the imposing Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool in 1912, declared upon its opening as “…the world’s most palatial hotel”.
