Bolection Fireplace – 18166

An antique bolection fireplace surround made from Italian breccia violette marble

The deeply cut bolection moulded frame rests 0n plain plinth blocks. The breccia marble rich in colour with shades of purple and ivory.

Provenance: Redcot House, Liverpool

Redcot House was described by ‘Country Life’ magazine in the early 1920’s as a ‘Lesser Country House’ and featured in Pevsner’s Architectural Guides of Great Britain.

It was built and owned in 1908 by the renowned Liverpool architect, Frank Atkinson, who only a year earlier in 1907 was the architect who helped in the design of Selfridges in London. Atkinson also designed the imposing Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool in 1912, declared upon its opening as “…the world’s most palatial hotel”.
